Joe Smuin comes from a long line of Kettle Valley Railway employees. His paternal grandfather, father, several uncles and cousins all worked for the railway in some capacity through the years.
Joe began his own railway career in the old Roundhouse at Penticton in early 1971, working in the Mechanical Department. While most of his working career was spent at BC Rail, he researched an wrote two books about the Kettle Valley.
Since retirement, he has continued to research and collect archival material concerning the railway. He gives periodic lecture/digital slide shows illustrating various aspects of the old KV operation. His presentation on April 26th at the Oliver & District Heritage Society AGM will show the former Osoyoos Subdivision which ran from Penticton to Osoyoos.
Join Joe at the ODHS's AGM on April 26th, 2017. Meeting begins at 7pm; Joe's presentation will follow brief intermission at the adjournment of the meeting.
