Career Opportunity: Contract Writer/Editor

Description & Duties: 

The Oliver & District Heritage Society is seeking a motivated and responsible contract writer/editor to work for a 5-month term on a community history book to commemorate the community’s centennial. Duties include building relationships with contributors and stakeholders, soliciting photo and article submissions, communication and follow-up with contributors, proofreading/editing, and working with ODHS staff on content selection, book organization/structure, and final edits. Position is conditional upon funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director and the ODHS Board President.

Qualifications: 

Applicants should have the following qualifications: 
1. Strong skillset and professional experience in writing/editing (writing samples required);
2. Proficiency with computer applications (word processing, using databases);
3. Experience in research and corroborating information;
4. Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally; 
5. Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team; 

6. Knowledge of Canadian copyright laws and regulations or willingness to learn;
7. Knowledge of Oliver history and First Nations (Syilx Okanagan) history a strong asset.

Compensation: 

$2,412.75/month; hours flexible
